Frequently Asked Questions

It is recommended that your child has at least 50 minutes of tutoring each week.

This helps give adequate time to review past content, introduce new information, and practice applying the skills to actual reading.

Depending on the age of the student, this can be 2 times a week for 25 minutes.  Or 1 time a week for 50 minutes.  Some students take 3 25-minute sessions per week.

During the session, your child will re-read passages to build fluency and gain confidence.  Your child will do 1-or-2-word work activities to help him/her practice his/hers English sounds and how to decode unfamiliar words.

Your child will then complete a guided reading lesson.  During this part of the lesson, your child will be given a text that is harder for him or her to read.  Miss Audrey will help your child read unknown words and give support to apply previously taught skills.  This helps your child to be exposed to harder content in a safe environment which will accelerate progress.

He or she will also be encouraged to apply skills from his/her word work to the reading.  These passages will help your child strengthen vocabulary, decoding skills, and comprehension.

Lessons will be adjusted to your child’s most pressing need.  My goal is to help your child become a confident reader who knows how to apply decoding and comprehension skills to reading texts.

I do not assign homework.

As we all know, the more we practice the faster we will make progress.  However, I understand that families are busy and don’t have a lot of extra time.  Therefore, I do not require my students to do additional work between classes.

With that said, I do highly encourage your child to read for at least 20 minutes 5 days a week.  Research has shown that the more a child reads the more successful they are academically.  Be sure to frequently listen to your child read out loud.  This will help you to see if they are guessing at words and encourage them to decode the word.

Once enrolled, parents will receive resources on the different practice activities they can do between sessions.  These techniques should be modeled in different content areas to help your child transfer the skills to real learning.

Lessons are held online via Zoom.  Upon registration you will receive a step-by-step guide showing how to prepare for your first session.  It is highly recommended you download zoom and practice logging in before our first session.

Definitely, I’ve been teaching online since 2018 and each of my students has come to excel.  I have found that students love learning in the comfort their own home.  Students who struggle with change or anxiety especially enjoy taking classes online because their environment is familiar.

You will find that one-on-one online tutoring with an experienced tutor is vastly different experience from group virtual lessons during Covid.  Students are able to develop social emotional skills while online. We play games and keep things interesting.

I offer monthly packages.  Payment will be received prior to sessions starting. Payments are processed through PayPal.

There are no refunds for classes canceled within 24 hours before class is scheduled.
